PROFILE
Dr. Aliu, Abbas Hassan was born on 5th May, 1978, in Supare, Akoko South-West Local Government Area, Ondo State. He attended Muslim Primary School (1983-1987) and Agbogbo Grammar School (1989-1994). He pursued his post-secondary education at Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, and Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna, where he obtained a National Diploma (ND) in Statistics (1997) and Higher National Diploma (HND) in Statistics (2000) respectively.Dr. Aliu furthered his studies at the University of Ilorin, earning a Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Statistics, Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree in Statistics, and a Doctorate Degree (Ph.D.) in Statistics in 2008, 2010, and 2019 respectively.
Dr. Aliu is a registered member of three (3) different Professional bodies: Member of Nigeria Statistical Association (NSA) since 2008, Member of Professional Statistician Society of Nigeria (PSSN) since 2016, and Member of Nigeria Mathematical Society (M.NMS) since 2017. He is also a Charter Member of the National Association for Artificial Intelligence AI Practitioners (CMNAAIP) 2024.
Dr. Aliu is a Chief Lecturer in the Department of Statistics at Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji. He commenced his academic career in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Ondo State Polytechnic, presently Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo, as a Technical Instructor on 4th August 2003. He was promoted to Senior Technical Instructor in 2006 and later converted to the lectureship cadre (Lecturer III) on October 1, 2008. He progressed through the ranks, attaining the position of Senior Lecturer in October 2017. Dr. Aliu joined the services of the Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, as Principal Lecturer in 2020 and assumed the role of Chief Lecturer in January 2024 in the Department of Statistics.
Before assuming the present position of Dean of the School of Applied Sciences, he served as the Head of the Statistics department and Chairman of Quality Assurance. In these roles, he was responsible for monitoring the academic standards of all academic activities and overseeing the quality of service delivery of the institution.
Dr. Aliu is characterized by his hardworking, honest, intelligent, resourceful, and highly dedicated nature, committed to academic excellence. He has held various positions of responsibility at Federal Polytechnic Ile-Oluji, including Member of Business Committee (2022-2023), Member of Academic Quality Assurance Committee (2022-date), Director of Continuing Education & Skills Acquisition Centre (CESAC) (2021-2023), Head of Accreditation exercises in the Department of Statistics (2020-date), Member of Polytechnic’s Admissions Committee (2021-date), and Polytechnic Desk Officer on Psychometric Education (2020-2022), and Student adviser in the Department of Statistics (2020-2022).
Dr. Aliu, A.H., has over twenty (20) academic publications in reputable local and international journals. He has also participated in various conferences, seminars, and workshops in the USA and other Nigerian higher education institutions, professional, and research institutes. His research interests lie in Bayesian methods of Analysis Discretely Observed and Non-observed Data on Epidemic and Pandemic Diseases affecting Humans and Animals, as well as Geo-Spatial Analysis of Climate sustainability and environmental impact on Human Behavioral Patterns. He is currently the Dean, School of Applied Sciences, Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, Ondo State.
